Bab Boujloud

Great way to enter the old streets of the Medina and an easy landmark to guide yourself. Walked around quite a lot now and this seems to be the only place, and hotbed for, being pestered for money by kids and beggars. Nothing aggressive or anything though.

Beautiful entrance into the city. Very nicely lit up at night. A selection of roof top bars just outside of the Medina near this spot. Also a popular photo stop.

The Blue Gate is one of the main access points in and out of the Medina in Fez. It’s a very busy area, full of movement and activity. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend wandering around here alone, especially if it’s your first time in the city. Pro tip: once you enter the Medina, head up to one of the rooftop cafés. Grab a tea and take in the view from above, it gives you a great perspective of this part of the Medina and helps you better understand its layout.

My visit to Bab Boujloud was one of the highlights of my time in Fes! The gate is stunning up close, with its iconic blue-and-green tiles and traditional Moroccan design. It’s a lively spot full of energy, surrounded by cafés, shops, and the bustling streets of the medina. I loved standing there to take photos and watch daily life flow around the gate from locals going to the souks to tourists starting their journey into the old city. Bab Boujloud is a beautiful and iconic gate that perfectly marks the entrance to the old medina of Fes. The blue and green tiles are stunning and make it a great spot for photos, both during the day and at night. The area around the gate is lively, full of cafés, shops, and local life, giving a real taste of the city’s atmosphere. It can get busy, but that’s part of the charm.
