Riad Arous Chamel, Tangier

Amazing view from the rooftop terrace. The overall atmosphere of the rooms and entire riad is really authentic and old Moroccan. It is right in the heart of the Medina, a bit difficult to find but the locals will be glad to help. Personnel is friendly and helpful, however English is not the best communication language here.

My stay at Riad Arous Chamel was very pleasant. It's in a great location in the heart of the Medina (the more touristy part). The facilities were clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast was delicious.

This is such an authentic experience. You won't get the flatscreen HDTV, you won't get the laundry service, you won't get the other amenities in a regular hotel. You get the real experience - narrow stairs, beautiful riad living, and a roof-top view that is to die for. If you are expecting a super comfortable bed, the easiest location to find, and a 24/7 concierge, go somewhere else. This is the real deal - prepare for real Tangiers living!

This is our second stay at Riad Arous Chamel. Its strategic location, nestled between the souk and the Kasbah, makes it ideal for reaching Tangier's major attractions and feeling at home in this extraordinary city. Quiet and very clean (daily linen change and daily room cleaning), it has a terrace overlooking the sea and a beautiful view of the rooftops of the medina. Breakfast is excellent, with coffee, fresh orange juice, Berber bread, Moroccan crepes, baguettes, jam, butter, fresh cheese, croissants, and fresh seasonal fruit. The staff is always welcoming and very friendly. We often chatted with the owners in the morning, who were particularly kind and available to offer advice on Tangier and attractions outside the city. The Riad has Wi-Fi and payment by POS. Upon request, you can also book a taxi to and from the airport through the Riad. Highly recommended, also for its excellent value. Alessandro

A very old building in the heart of the Medina's labyrinthine streets, simple yet very comfortable. In Spain, it would be more like a country house than a hotel. The staff is very kind and friendly. The breakfast, quite substantial, is served on the terrace; I believe on busy days it's served indoors. By the way, being on the terrace at night, during prayer time, is quite an experience. There are several cozy corners where you can relax or chat. The Medina can seem chaotic at times, but if the city is about letting yourself be carried away, the Medina is even more so. You have to ask questions, chat, and above all, greet people.

A very well-located riad in the heart of the medina with a large terrace offering superb views, where a delicious breakfast is served every morning. The riad's patio is lovely but enclosed at the roof level, resulting in less ventilation. This was noticeable in our rather damp room. Although indicated in our reservation, some rooms do not have an en-suite bathroom, which is inconvenient (requiring stairs). Gilles, the owner, can chat with you and offer advice during breakfast, which is quite helpful if you have any needs. The staff is also quite pleasant. As with any riad, it can be noisy in the evenings and mornings.

When we arrived in Tangier, our guide, Reduan, accompanied us to the Riad. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the Medina, just 5 minutes from the Kasbah. The rooms are small, but very cozy and well laid out. There was also a sofa, which was very useful if you needed to go upstairs to rest for a while, and the bed was very comfortable. Some rooms have en-suite bathrooms. In my case, the bathroom was outside the room, but it's strictly for the guest's private use. The breakfasts were fantastic: tea, Moroccan bread, fruit, and croissants. Quite substantial to start the morning off right. In short, the stay was very pleasant, the service superb, and the location unbeatable.
