We loved our stay here. (3nights). We asked for a brighter room and it was amazing. High ceilings. Natural light. Huge bedroom (king bed ) / living room with a renovated bathroom with great pressure and hot water. The bed linen was fresh and crisp and the towels fluffy and comfy. All the little luxuries that makes a place from good to great. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There’s an amazing sun roof to watch the sunset or anytime really. Breakfast is huge and is included in the price we paid. The mosaic tile work is beautiful. Anyways I could go on but it’s a resounding yes if you decide to book a riad.
Review of Riad Al Makan: A Disastrous Hotel Stay I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Riad Al Makan, and I must say it was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that the service was poor, the management was unhelpful, and the overall attitude of the staff was aggressive and unwelcoming. Upon checking in, I encountered a receptionist who seemed disinterested and unfriendly. I had several questions about the hotel amenities and nearby attractions, but the staff member provided minimal information and seemed annoyed by my inquiries. This lack of assistance and professionalism was a clear sign of what was to come during my stay. The condition of the hotel room was appalling. The bathroom, in particular, was dirty and showed signs of neglect. There was a noticeable infestation of pests, which made the experience extremely uncomfortable and unsanitary. I immediately notified the staff about this issue, hoping for a prompt resolution, but my concerns were met with indifference. The management showed no urgency in addressing the problem, leaving me feeling frustrated and disgusted. Throughout my stay, I encountered various instances where the hotel staff demonstrated an aggressive attitude. Instead of offering assistance and accommodating guests' needs, they were confrontational and uncooperative. It seemed as though they had no interest in providing a pleasant and welcoming environment for their guests. This hostile atmosphere made my stay incredibly unpleasant and left me regretting my decision to choose Riad Al Makan. The management's lack of concern for guest satisfaction was evident throughout my time at the hotel. When I approached them with my concerns about the poor service, unhelpful staff, and unsanitary conditions, they dismissed my complaints and offered no apology or compensation for the inconvenience I had endured. Their dismissive attitude only served to further exacerbate the negative experience I had at Riad Al Makan. In conclusion, I strongly advise against staying at Riad Al Makan. The poor service, unhelpful management, and aggressive attitude of the staff made for an incredibly disappointing and uncomfortable stay. The dirty and infested bathroom was a clear indication of the lack of maintenance and hygiene standards at this establishment. I sincerely hope that the management takes immediate action to address these issues and improve the quality of their services, but until then, I would strongly recommend considering alternative accommodations in order to avoid the disastrous experience I had at Riad Al Makan.
The building is extremely beautiful. May not be that confortable since these type of construction are very old and they have to do difficult renovations to become a comfortable accommodation. Staff are extremely kind. However efficiency is not their top priority. It’s at the edge of the Medina, which is very good for arrival and departure and also to immerse in the souks.
As soon as we walked through the unassuming entrance we were blown away by the building’s architecture and intricate carved wooden designs on the ceiling. We had seen pictures online, but nothing could have prepared us for the sheer scale and detail of craftsmanship. It is impressive! Youssef, Squalli and Radija are marvellous people and excellent hosts. They are warm, welcoming and have an innate ability to make you feel like a family friend rather than a guest in a hotel. Despite spending the day fasting due to Ramadan, the staff cooked and served delicious food with a big smile on their faces. They were very accommodating with my needs. There were a lot of vegan options for breakfast per my request. I am very thankful for that ☺️. The dishes served in the restaurant are hearty and packed with flavour. We had dinner most of days there. The terrace is also a great location with stunning views of the city. My husband and I were very pleased with our choice. We certainly recommend staying in this riad!
Good location and a pretty quiet surrounding. Had a driver from the hotel pick me up and he was polite and professional. The reception was friendly and always willing to help in any way they could. This is one of the oldest riyads around the area
Fabulous Riad. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Fès look no further than this one. It’s situated about a five minute walk from the medina which is ideal as the medina itself would be far too intense to stay in. The interior decor is absolutely stunning - beautiful original patterns some of which are very old and beautifully restored. The rooms are comfortable (good beds, strong AC, modern bathrooms and very clean). The breakfast is the best we’ve had in Morocco, very filling and varies every day. The staff are accommodating and friendly - giving great local tips on what to see and do. We booked both a tour of the medina and a day trip to Chefchaouen with them and they were both great.
Terrible experience at this hotel. If you have a room beside the alley, it’s incredibly loud with people passing by talking and dragging their suitcases on the cobble stone. Owner was very rude and was not considerate of the noise issues. He also tried to double charge us on the booking platform when we already paid via another method. Would not recommend. The room we had was tight. You could not comfortably get into bed on one side. Windows didn’t close properly and there was shower leaks from the glass doors.
Stayed there for 3 nights. Amazing service from the staff, the riad is beautiful, only the transport is overpriced but its logical since its an extra service. Lots of regards to Mohamed, Abdulrahim, Anas and the night- porter!
