Balthazar Cafe

A very pleasant place with a great selection of breakfast options. I chose the Mexican breakfast and really enjoyed it. The Moroccan tea was excellent too. Cozy atmosphere, good service, and a beautiful view of the Corniche. I would definitely love to come back and try more dishes.

The service was terrible. We ordered two Nutella and banana crêpes, but they served them without the banana—even though I had paid for the banana option. They took a long time to both take our order and bring it out, even though the restaurant was empty. Also, the waiter didn't bring us water or napkins, despite us asking for them when we placed our order. On the plus side, the setting is lovely and cool—perfect for summer.

I wanted to give two star, but ended up giving one. I ordered the fondant chocolate dessert, which I have had from this café several times before. Unfortunately, both on my previous visit and again this time, the quality was extremely poor. The dessert was baked only around the edges, while the inside was completely wrong — it had entirely leaked onto the plate. It felt as though the dessert had not been baked at the correct temperature, or that it may have been reheated in a microwave prior to serving, which is unacceptable for this type of dessert. There were also clear issues with the service. The coffee arrived about 15 minutes before the dessert. When I asked about this, the server explained that the barista and the kitchen are separate. From a customer’s perspective, this is not a valid excuse — especially with desserts, staff should ensure that coffee and dessert are served at the same time if that is the customer’s request. I complained to the manager, who took the dessert away and promised to bring a replacement. However, after already waiting around 20 minutes, we still did not receive a new dessert within a reasonable time. Additionally, I noticed that the table in front of us, where white European guests were seated, received frequent and noticeably more attentive service. This created an uncomfortable feeling of unequal treatment. What made this experience even more frustrating was that it clearly went beyond reasonable expectations, especially considering that the café was not busy during our visit (approximately between 9:20 PM and 10:08 PM). By the time anything could have been resolved, my coffee was already finished, and there was no longer any enjoyment left in the visit. Overall, the experience was disappointing both in terms of food quality and service. I hope more attention will be paid in the future to proper preparation standards and equal, consistent customer service.

I was absolutely blown away by this place! The customer service was a 10/10—my waiter was incredibly attentive and even offered great suggestions, which I really appreciated. I came here for iftar and had a fantastic experience. Everything from the atmosphere to the food was top-notch. Highly recommend!
