The ambiance was okay, and the restaurant is located in an old Portuguese fortress, which is beautiful, clean, and very cozy. You feel comfortable the moment you walk in. Unfortunately, the experience goes downhill from there. The place feels like a tourist trap. The food was a letdown and didn’t reflect any authentic local or traditional flavors.
The Lamb Tagine was especially disappointing. It was swimming with fat, oil, and peas, with only two small chunks of meat. The quality and quantity were nowhere near worth the high price. Even the Moroccan mint tea didn’t resemble the real Moroccan tea you find everywhere in Marrakech and Fez. The taste is just different. If you’ve ever tasted real traditional Moroccan food, the difference is night and day.
Service was slow, and the staff seemed unfriendly and overwhelmed. Getting the bill took an unusually long time, even after requesting it multiple times. The staff were constantly rushing around without actually attending to customers. Overall, not an experience I’d recommend. I honestly wonder how this place receives such high ratings, because the overall experience didn’t come close to matching them.
