What people mention
Stayed at this hotel for a week in July very recently. It was average to good. People running hotel were very friendly and helpful and aways had a smile. We were given free breakfast after the first day which was very good of them. There is no air con at this hotel and the deco is a bit tired in need of a freshen up. The balconies in bulk of the rooms were very small, although there was a table and two chairs in then but this left not a lot of space if any to move around the area. However there was two roof terraces and a nice lounge with sofa and table just up a small set of steps. These were also very good and spacious but again needed a fresh coat of paint and maybe some nice lights/plants. Pool was clean and surrounding area also kept tidy and clean. The hotel was very close/short walk to beach. Where there was many camel, horse, etc rides available. And our favourite bar call beach and friend.
The hotel is located in a quieter part of Essaouira, with roughly 20 minutes walk to the medina, but close to the beach, i.e. a bit for far sightseeing but great for water sports or camel/horse riding. The rooms are spacious and clean, which is an amazing feat given the strong winds blowing sand everywhere (we were in early August). The hotel has an outdoor pool with both deep (2m) and shallow ends, with sun-chairs around it. Due to its size it’s more for refreshing than for swimming, and it is not heated. We only had breakfasts in the hotel, which were great, but heavily tilted to the sweet side, with great variety of pancakes, but very little on the non-sweet end. The buffet was refilled fast even at peak times. There were three issues for which I cannot give it 5 stars. First, we were offered the worst rooms upon arrival, it seems a national sport that you have to bargain your way up to have something acceptable. Not a pleasant experience, and we still ended up with no balconies. The second is that one evening the wifi extender was relocated and as a result the wifi ceased to exist in our rooms. Third, we wanted to buy some snacks for our kids one evening and were told to go to the medina for it, as only restaurants were open near the hotel. Not sure how has the hotel lady missed the small grocery shop across the road...
Shabby chic says it for the resort as well as the hotel. If you want all singing and dancing plush luxury you're probably in the wrong resort/country. The hotel has friendly and informative staff. Rooms cleaned daily is essential as sand gets everywhere in this town because of the wind but thats also what makes the climate so wonderful. No bother with flies or humidity. The hotel pool was great for playing in and cooling off when the beach was too windy. We came on the recommendation for watersports and would agree 100%. Fully professional setups allow lessons or hire very easily. Hotal Al Jasira is only 5 minutes from the better end of the beach for watersports.
