While in Taroudant for several weeks, I could not find small jars or tin cans of anchovies in the souks or at any small shops selling food items. Someone suggested I go to Supermarché Mhaita, located a short distance outside the walls surrounding the city, but a little too far to walk to. I took a petit taxi to Supermarché Mhaita, which cost the fixed price of 8 Dirhams, and I tipped the driver 2 Dirhams. Once inside, I walked around and then asked a clerk where the anchois were. At first, he told me they were out of stock, but later he found them on a shelf inside a refrigerated display case with clear glass windows. It was the same brand I usually buy in Tangier. I was pleased that my trip was not in vain. However, when I scanned the jar, I found out that the price in this store was 43 Dirhams, whereas in Tanger I pay only 39 Dirhams at Marjane. I continued to walk around Supermarché Mhaita to see if I could find something else, but since I ate out in the evenings, I paid by card at the cash register, and walked outside. This is an excellent store for some items not available elsewhere in Taroudant, which does not have a Marjane or Carrefour. You will find a wide variety of cheeses, for example. However, you will certainly pay more here on most items. In my case, I paid about 10% more than in Tanger.
