La Casa Del Mar

A functional stay in the heart of Essaouira. We visited Casa del Mar part-way through a bikepacking trip from Agadir to Marrakesh and back via this coastal city. The staff were more than happy for us to store the bikes upstairs in our room, which was excellent. The room itself was large enough & had two good sized beds, given it’s description as a ‘triple’. It had a small mezzanine level with a 4ft mattress on, which was perfectly comfortable. The bathroom was clean and functional, with a powerful, hot shower. Breakfast was good, with fresh juice, mint tea and a range of traditional baked items. The location is great if you want to explore the hustle and bustle of the city’s narrow streets, maybe not so great if you are after something a little quieter or have a rental vehicle. Inside does a good job of blocking out the noise from outside, but sound travels within the property’s numerous floors quite easily & we were woken up in the night by music a couple of times. The terrace area on top is also a nice addition. However, it’s a shame that the lights don’t appear to work, so you can’t sit up there in the evenings after dark as we’d hoped to.

I was very comfortable here and would happily recommend La Casa del Mar! the room looked exactly like the photos (a rarity in Essaouira) and the rooftop is peaceful with a nice little view of the ocean. You may struggle a bit if you don't speak Arabic or French, but I managed well enough in the end with the extremely friendly staff.

We really enjoy this place. We stayed in one of the rooms on the top level. Pros: Tons of light and you can hear the sounds of the ocean. Staff is amazing. Friendly, helpful, sincere. Breakfast was homemade on site everyday. We were able to take it on the top terrace as well. Rooms made daily. Cons: There is zero privacy. Your windows are always open to manage the heat, so your one neighbour can see clearly in. The bathroom has no closed door or wall. Just be sure you're either traveling alone, or the person with you is ok with seeing/hearing the real you. No toiletries: shampoo, bodywash. There was a small bar of soap but it wasn't enough. The room we had had a strong smell of septic. The pipe in the shower was the cause. We covered it and that helped.

A superb experience at La Casa Del Mar. A very charming riad, ideally located in the heart of the medina. The room was cute, well-equipped, and comfortable. A warm welcome and a fantastic breakfast (thank you again for the delicious msemmen every morning!). Special mention for the rooftop and its sea view. Excellent value for money!

Even though the hotel is located next to the sea, you can only see it from the rooftop, which faces the dilapidated facades. The sheets, towels, and curtains were filthy. It was impossible to sleep at night with windows that wouldn't close (they were broken) and a leaking toilet. Avoid at all costs! You can easily find better at other hotels for this price.

The stay was wonderful. We enjoyed a week's holiday there. We stayed in a spacious room. The breakfast is delicious (I'll miss the msemen!). Also, the women who run it are lovely and very friendly. Excellent location. Highly recommended.

The rooms were pleasant and clean. The hotel is well located, with a beautiful sea view from the terrace, and the staff are friendly. However, the breakfast was a bit basic, and it was quite noisy due to the echo.

A very warm welcome; we immediately felt at home. The decor upon entering the Riad is beautiful. We were treated to the sublime and spacious "Ibiza" room (where an American actor and his gorgeous partner stayed, shhh!!! We won't tell 🤫). The riad is welcoming, very clean, and quiet... just the sound of the ocean waves. The location is perfect. A fantastic team works day and night to ensure the comfort of the guests.
